Overview

At VMware International, led the data source migration for a complex authorisation microservice — moving from AWS DynamoDB to PostgreSQL as part of a broader platform modernisation.

What I Did

  • Extracted interfaces for all data objects to enable a clean swap of the data layer with zero functional regression.
  • Meticulously planned the transition period to ensure data integrity and minimal service disruption.
  • The new PostgreSQL-backed service later enabled the platform to migrate from AWS to GCP entirely.

Outcomes

  • PostgreSQL backend enabled the platform to later migrate from AWS to GCP, resulting in substantial cost savings.
  • Minimal service disruption throughout the transition despite the complexity of the authorisation domain.
